Two portals, one application
Tamil Nadu homes now deal with two websites. The national PM Surya Ghar portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) is where the central subsidy is claimed. The TNEB Unified Solar Rooftop Portal (tnebltd.gov.in/usrp, opened on 21 September 2026) is what TNPDCL uses for feasibility, net metering and the state top-up.
One date matters: register on PM Surya Ghar on or after 5 August 2026, or you miss the ₹22,000 Tamil Nadu share.
Step by step
- Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in: choose Tamil Nadu and TNPDCL, then enter your consumer number and Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- Apply for rooftop solar. TNPDCL checks technical feasibility: your sanctioned load and the local transformer.
- Choose a registered vendor for your area and agree the system size and price.
- Install the system. The vendor uploads plant details and you apply for the net meter.
- TNPDCL inspects, fits the bidirectional meter and the commissioning certificate is generated.
- Add your bank details. The central subsidy comes through the portal; the state share is paid separately by TEDA.
Documents to keep ready
- Latest electricity bill (the name must match your bank account).
- Aadhaar with the mobile number linked.
- Bank passbook or cancelled cheque.
- Property tax receipt or other ownership proof.
- A clear photo of the roof.
Where applications get stuck
- Name on the EB bill differs from the bank account holder.
- Sanctioned load is lower than the system size: apply for load enhancement first.
- Panels are not made-in-India (DCR), so the subsidy is refused.
- The vendor is not registered for TNPDCL.
- The system was installed before feasibility approval.
How long it takes
Typically 3 to 8 weeks from application to commissioning, depending on feasibility and meter availability, and about 30 days more for the subsidy to reach your bank. These are indicative; portal screens and rules can change, so check the portal before you start.
Not sure what size you need? Start with the TNEB bill calculator, or see the 3 kW price with subsidy.
FAQ
What is tnebltd.gov.in/usrp?
It is the TNEB Unified Solar Rooftop Portal that TNPDCL opened on 21 September 2026 for rooftop solar feasibility, net metering and the Tamil Nadu state top-up.
Do I need both PM Surya Ghar and the TNEB portal?
Yes. The central subsidy is claimed through PM Surya Ghar, while TNPDCL handles feasibility, the net meter and the state share through its own portal. Your vendor usually handles most of the uploads.
How long does the solar subsidy take in Tamil Nadu?
About 30 days after the system is commissioned and inspected, though it varies. The central and state amounts arrive separately.
