Home/Residential rooftop solar

Rooftop solar for your home in Tamil Nadu.

Home solar from 1 kW to 10 kW, engineered by Goggles Energy since 2013. PM Surya Ghar subsidy paperwork, TNPDCL (TANGEDCO) net metering and installation handled end to end.

Rooftop solar is the simplest way for a Tamil Nadu household to cut its electricity bill. A 3 kW on-grid system makes about 360 units a month, which covers most of a typical home's use. Exported units earn credit through net metering. Goggles Energy designs each home system for its roof, wind zone and shading, then handles subsidy, DISCOM approvals and maintenance.

On-grid or hybrid?

On-grid

Lowest cost and eligible for the subsidy. It exports surplus units to the grid for credit, but switches off during a power cut for safety.

Hybrid

Adds a battery, so lights, fans and the fridge keep running during outages. It costs more; choose it if power cuts are frequent where you live.

Apartments

RWAs and group housing societies can solarise common loads (lifts, pumps, lighting) with ₹18,000 per kW subsidy.

Home rooftop solar FAQ

How much does a 3 kW rooftop solar system cost in Tamil Nadu after subsidy?

An on-grid 3 kW home system with made-in-India (DCR) modules is indicatively ₹1.8–2.2 lakh before subsidy. After the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar central subsidy, you pay about ₹1.02–1.42 lakh. Your exact price depends on roof type, structure height and brands.

How much solar subsidy can I get in Tamil Nadu in 2026?

The PM Surya Ghar central subsidy is ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. The Tamil Nadu 2026–27 budget announced a state top-up for a total of up to ₹1 lakh. Treat that top-up as announced, not operational, until the government order and application process are published.

Can apartments and gated communities get the solar subsidy?

Yes. Resident welfare associations and group housing societies can claim ₹18,000 per kW for common-area loads such as lifts, pumps and lighting, up to 500 kW.

How many units does a 1 kW solar system generate in Tamil Nadu?

About 4–4.5 units a day, or roughly 120 units a month, on a shade-free south-facing roof. Tamil Nadu's high irradiance makes it one of the better states for home solar.

Will rooftop solar work during a power cut?

A standard on-grid system shuts down during a grid outage for safety. If you need backup, ask for a hybrid system with a battery; it costs more but keeps essential loads running.

Which is the best solar company for home rooftop solar in Tamil Nadu?

Choose a company that engineers the system for your roof, not one that only sells panels. Check local references, DCR Tier-1 modules, wind-rated structures, in-house TNPDCL net-metering paperwork and an O&M team. Goggles Energy has built home, rooftop and industrial solar across Tamil Nadu since 2013 (150+ MW, 500+ projects). Compare at least three quotes.
